The guidelines are as follow:
For children’s picture books, send full manuscript.
For all others, send either full manuscript OR table of contents plus three sample chapters.

Peachtree does not accept query letters where no manuscript is included.
Peachtree currently publishes the following categories:

Children’s fiction and nonfiction picture books, chapter books, middle readers, young adult books;
Education, parenting, self-help, and health books of interest to the general trade;
NOTE: Peachtree does not publish historical novels (except children’s/young adult), science fiction, fantasy, romance, westerns, horror, poetry, short stories, plays, business, scientific or technical reference, or books intended specifically as textbooks.

FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS:

Send biographical material about the author (past publishing credentials, education, etc.)
Include a self-addressed, stamped #10 (letter-sized) envelope (SASE) for a response. If no SASE is included, no response will be given.
If you would like your materials returned, please send an appropriately-sized envelope with adequate postage. Submissions without sufficient postage will not be returned, but will be recycled by our office.
GENERAL INFORMATION:

Please do not send original artwork or original manuscripts. Send only copies, as Peachtree is not responsible for the return or condition of submissions. Artwork in general is not required. The publisher reserves the right to select the illustrator.

Peachtree cannot accept manuscript submissions via fax or email. We will not review any manuscript sent on CD or diskette. All manuscripts must be sent by US Mail. Submissions should be addressed to Helen Harriss, Acquisitions Editor.

Peachtree receives approximately 20,000 submissions each year. We make every effort to review all submissions in a timely manner. Please do not contact our office regarding status. Please be aware that the submissions process usually takes upwards of 6-9 months to complete, as we strive to give every manuscript the attention it deserves.

Self Publishing Vs. Publisher's

Every writer dream is to have their work in print as well as to make money from what they love best. One thing for sure is the difference between self publishing and a company publishing a book. Self publishers have all the rights and revenue and will have to stay committed and dedicated to marketing their work 100%. Publishing with a company can be an ease if the author doesn't want to deal with the stressfulness of the necessary actions needed in order to get their work in as many people hands as possible. It all depends on how far the writer is willing to go to reach his or her goal.




Some publisher's such as Author House and Dorrance Publisher charge a large fee just to publish author's work, but why should an author pay to get published if the publisher find the work interesting? It might be easier to some folk to spend about $20,000 because no hard work is done on the author's part and the author's work will be found in a popular bookstore like Barnes and Noble, but half of the money made will be paid to the publisher just for doing the job that the author didn't want to do. Getting a manuscript accepted to these companies and many others can be challenging but being professional and following the submission guidelines are very important. They are the keys to a rejection or acceptance.



Many self publisher's are turning to online publisher's, such as Lulu. Lulu allow authors to upload their manuscript, create a unique front and back cover with their book cover design template, and set their own prices. Help is within reach at www.lulu.com for author's that want a distribution package: ISBN number, custom design, editing, marketing, and world wide print at places like Borders, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and more! Authors who choose not to get the distribution package will basically have to do all the marketing themselves, but there are free marketing tools: widgets, storefront, Google book search, web banners and buttons. There are websites to promote at WeRead and Intrepid Media. The key to being successful with online publisher's is using all the free tools to their maximum.



Being a best seller writer is terrific and requires hard work and dedication. No matter how it is done, the outcome is rewarding. Learn from rejection and keep reading more, searching, and staying positive.

Getting Started With Poetry.... Steps to market and submission process

Do you want to learn how to write? Well, you've come to the write place. If you are already a "writer" then keep reading the steps to marketing and submission process!







Here are eight steps to the marketig and submission process. Make sure you follow and read carefully, remember that you're already pursing your dream.



1.Read and keep reading....

If you don't read different kinds of poetry, you'll never advance your skills. Studying the masters is manditory, but it's also great to read what others are writing ad publishing. Read magazines, journals, chapbooks, and collections for multiple voices. Remember, don't rush to publish until you feel like you've written your best.

2. Know what you write best and are interested in...

Experiment all shades of poetry, from free verse to ballad, but also know wht style you're comfortable with that conveys your "real" voice. Know markets that publishes works similar to yours.

3. Learn the industry...

There is a correct way of submitting and publishing poems. Learn all you can by reading and writing. The internet is also a helpful source.

4. Research markets...

You can always google "Poets Market" or "Publishers for poets" to find different markets. The library will also be a great help. When you find a market you like, you should always study several issues to get a feel of the style and content that they're looking for. If a market isn't online, send for guidlines and sample copies. Guidelines give you the juice on what an editor expects.

5.Start slowly...

Don't rush into sending your poems.

6.Be Professional...

Always show professionalism in your submissions. Always follow guidelines that are mentioned from the editor. Submit a clean manuscript. Make sure you include a SASE(self- addressed stamped evelope) with your submissions and inquiry, because it shows respect to the editor and the process. It also shows that you take your work seriously.

8.Learn from rejection...

Rejection is not a slip to doubt yourself or give up on what you love doing.

Never send the only copies of your work. Create a folder for your poems tat are submitted. Make a tracking system so you know where your poems are: index cards, chart, notebook, etc. Note the titles, publications, press or contest, date, returned or accepted.
